Put Your Best Face Forward this Year with Microneedling

Maintaining youthful, smooth skin is something that everyone wants. New cosmetics and new cosmetic procedures pop up all the time. But how do you know which — if any — one is right for you? A popular new option, and one we endorse, is microneedling, which involves the use of tiny needles on the skin. This might not sound like anything that could help your skin look young and fresh, but a study by the National Library of Health proves that this treatment is as effective as it is simple.

Though our primary goal at Eyecare Center of Snohomish is maintaining the health of your eyes, Anup Deol, OD and our team are also skincare enthusiasts. We are also certified to perform microneedling for our patients.

How does microneedling work?

At your consultation, if we decide that microneedling is the treatment for you, we’ll schedule you for an appointment. Sessions normally last for about twenty minutes, so it’s easy to fit them into your schedule.

When you come in for your first session, we’ll guide you to a comfortable chair, where you’ll lay down. While seated at the head of the chair, Dr. Deol and the team first apply a numbing cream all over your face, and/or whatever other area(s) he’s treating. The procedure is safe for other areas of the body, so let us know which areas are your problem areas.

After the numbing cream goes into effect, we slowly roll a small device containing tiny needles across your problem areas. These will prick your skin and cause a little bit of bleeding. The single-use needles will be sterile, so you don’t have to worry about infections. You may feel prickling during your procedure, or tingling after your procedure, but disruptive pain is extremely uncommon.

The insertion of the microneedles encourages your skin to go into “healing mode” and produce collagen-rich tissue, which makes the skin firm and smooth. The new skin also contains more elastin, which reduces the look of fine lines.

Are there side effects?

After each microneedling session, your skin may be red, and you may experience light bruising or scarring that will eventually fade away. Our team will apply a skin serum after your treatment, when your skin’s absorption ability will be at its peak.

Your skin may be more sensitive after your treatment, and you may need to take a few extra steps to properly care for it. Dr. Deol will tell you when you can go back to wearing certain cosmetics or spending time in the sun.

Do I need it?

As this is a cosmetic procedure, no one has a medical need for microneedling, but it can be a massive boost for your self-esteem. Those who would benefit most from the procedure have skin with imperfections and visible signs of aging, including:

While it’s possible to see results after your first treatment, most usually see optimal results with 4-6 treatments spaced out over four weeks. We will work with you to create a treatment plan that works with your schedule, and doesn’t overwhelm your skin.
