You already know that having regular eye exams is the easiest way to check your vision and keep your prescription up-to-date, but did you know it’s also the best way to maintain optimal ocular health for life? Anup Deol, OD, and the team at Eyecare Center of Snohomish offer comprehensive eye exams designed to keep your vision sharp and detect common and serious eye diseases in their earliest, most treatable stages. To schedule your next eye exam, call their Snohomish, Washington office today, or book an appointment online any time.
A comprehensive eye exam is a multi-part evaluation designed to provide a complete and accurate picture of your visual acuity as well as your ocular health.
During your hour-long appointment, Dr. Deol takes time to closely and thoroughly examine both of your eyes, looking for early signs of common ocular conditions and disorders, including:
Glaucoma
Cataracts
Macular degeneration
Diabetic eye disease
Dry eye
Low vision
Having regular comprehensive eye exams as recommended is essential to catching these common conditions early on, before they cause noticeable symptoms or even vision loss.
A comprehensive eye exam covers every aspect of eyesight and eye health. Before the start of your exam, you can expect to review your medical history, overall health, and any current vision problems with Dr. Deol. Then, she’ll check the following:
Visual acuity
This standard eye test requires you to read from an eye chart to determine how well you see at various distances.
Pupil reaction
To check pupil response, Dr. Deol briefly shines a special light into each eye. Pupils that don’t change or become larger may indicate an underlying condition or problem.
Peripheral vision
When testing your side vision, Dr. Deol is primarily looking for early signs of glaucoma, a serious and progressive eye disease that often begins with peripheral vision loss.
Eye movement
Assessing your eyes’ proficiency in tracking objects, as well as their ability to move quickly in all directions, helps Dr. Deol evaluate eye alignment and ocular muscle function.
Eye surface
Using an illuminated microscope to evaluate your eyelids, corneas, irises, and lenses, Dr. Deol looks for signs of cataracts, corneal scars, or scratches.
Retinal and optic nerve health
During your visit, an image will be taken with our state of the art retinal imaging camera to check
your retinas and optic nerves.
Vision test
If you require vision correction, your exam also includes a vision test to determine your personal lens prescription.
If you’re curious about permanent vision correction with LASIK eye surgery, Dr. Deol and her team can provide a comprehensive LASIK evaluation to determine if the procedure is right for you.
Using advanced laser technology to correct deformations on the surface of your corneas, LASIK eye surgery can permanently correct:
Astigmatism (blurred vision)
Nearsightedness (myopia)
Farsightedness (hyperopia)
Presbyopia (poor close-up vision)
To qualify for LASIK eye surgery, both you and your eyes must be healthy just as patients with glaucoma or cataracts aren’t suitable candidates, neither are patients with complex chronic health conditions like diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis.
If your LASIK evaluation determines that you’re a good candidate for corrective eye surgery, Dr. Deol can refer you to a qualified surgeon.
