Microneedling

What is microneedling?

Microneedling uses ultra-thin needles to create a uniform series of micro-channels across the surface of your skin to trigger collagen growth, stimulate elastin renewal, and encourage the kind of deep tissue regeneration that helps strengthen and tighten underlying skin structures.

Also known as collagen induction therapy, this simple, yet highly advanced, skin revitalization technique can help correct or reduce the appearance of virtually any unwanted skin flaw or imperfection, including:

  • Fine lines and deep wrinkles
  • Vertical lip lines
  • Sun damage and age spots
  • Loose, saggy skin texture
  • Dull, uneven skin tone
  • Visibly large pores
  • Stretch marks and surface scars

Your skin needs and aesthetic goals help determine the depth of needle placement during your microneedling treatment; stretch marks, acne scars, and dark spots require a slightly deeper needle placement than enlarged pores and fine lines, for example.

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling works on two levels: It revitalizes your complexion from the outside in and rejuvenates your skin from the inside out. By creating fine micro-channels across the surface of the treatment area, microneedling allows for the transdermal delivery of topical nutrients into your deepest layers of skin.

Though the microneedling device itself helps to gently break up scar tissue and areas of excess pigmentation, the micro-channels it leaves behind help boost the production of collagen and elastin, the two main proteins that give your skin its structure and its shape.

By stimulating collagen growth and encouraging elastin renewal, microneedling leaves your skin looking increasingly vibrant, more uniform, and youthfully taut in the days, weeks, and months following treatment.

What is microneedling like?

Dr. Deol and her team perform microneedling using a state-of-the-art device that uses multiple, ultra-precise, single-use needles to vertically pierce the surface of your skin, gently creating a series of fine micro-channels across the treatment area.

Although microneedling isn’t painful, it does cause minor tingling and a light prickly sensation that feels similar to other advanced other clinical skin treatments like microdermabrasion. If you have sensitive skin, a topical numbing cream can help minimize discomfort from start to finish.

What can I expect following the procedure?

In the first few days after your microneedling treatment, you may notice a brighter complexion, fewer visible imperfections, and immediate improvement in your skin’s tone and texture.

As time goes on, you can expect gradual and continued skin improvement as your body builds new networks of collagen and elastin.

Although one microneedling treatment may be all it takes to deliver your desired results, most patients attain optimal results after undergoing a series of 4-6 treatments, spread out over a total of 3-6 months.
